Beautiful butterflies are everywhere in Laos. This is a Continental Great Mormon (Papilo memnon agenor) butterfly feeding on a wild fuchsia plant. Lao farmers use very little pesticides and herbicides which kill the caterpillars, so butterflies flourish here. Upriver where virtually none are used, butterflies are everywhere feeding on the flowers and minerals in the sand.
