4 tiny tots at Baan Lad Khammune

Wandee's 45m river boat

Below is our Mekong River map and villages where Mekong Kayaks operates its adventure tours between Keng Heng Yai and  Luang Prabang the ancient capital of Laos.

For centuries the villagers have led an isolated, simple, self-sustainable life on the banks of the Mekong River, growing crops and relying on the river for fishing. For many the only access for both people and goods is by boat.

Hence this remoteness has preserved the many different ethnic groups along the river, with diverse cultures.

When we first started coming here in the late 1990’s we were often the first white people to have ever visited these villages, and the children would run away and hide. Today they are full of confidence and smiles and may even try their English out on you.

We have funded schools, text books and teaching materials in several of these villages, which are then staffed with government teachers. Can learn more HERE
